Here's the honest truth about freehand sharpening: the hard part isn't the motion, it's keeping the angle constant. The Wedgek wedges aren't a sharpening tool, they're a training aid. You strap the right wedge to the edge of your stone with the included rubber band, rest your knife against it at the correct angle, and get a feel for what that angle actually is.

Eleven wedges from 10 to 20 degrees, in 1-degree steps. That's more range than most people need, but early on, more options isn't a bad thing.

Good for: anyone learning to sharpen freehand who isn't sure they're holding the angle. Also handy to recalibrate after a while if you feel your technique drifting.

Pros:

• Doesn't touch the stone itself, so it won't scratch the surface
• Fine 1-degree steps cover pretty much any common sharpening angle
• Very cheap for the amount of learning it saves you

Cons:

• Only sets the angle at the start of the stroke, not throughout the whole motion, you still have to stay consistent yourself

• A training aid, not a substitute for actually building the technique
